Creative Feature Friday: Lindsey Rachel

I came across Lindsey's page on IG and her encouragement and affirmations have kept me going on rough days. Lindsey is an artist but also inspires others to rest and pour into themselves. Here's more on Lindsey and her artistic journey below :)

Can you give the readers a introduce?

My name is Lindsey Rachel (lindseythecreative) I’m from Los Angeles, California, and now live in Austin, Texas.

I’m a multi hyphenated creative. Writing was my very first love. I remember writing poetry and plays when I was 5 and 6 years old. I ventured out into photography as a young adult and developed a love for visual arts as well!

What does creativity mean to you?

To me, creativity is one of the ultimate forms of self-expression. I believe in creating for yourself, first. Create what you want to see in this world. Create what speaks to you, and your community of like-minded individuals will grow!

How does art and mental health intersect for you personally?

My art is greatly affected by mental health. If I’m not prioritizing my health and peace, I feel drained and empty. I can’t create from a space of mental emptiness.

What does mental health mean to you?

Mental health means pouring back into yourself, as often as you need to. It means making yourself a priority, giving love to the pieces of yourself that may be struggling.

What are some lessons you learned during entrepreneurship?

One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned as an entrepreneur is to put myself on a time frame. I choose not to work on projects late into the night, no matter how urgent or how passionate I may be about it. I have to give myself time and space to regroup and recharge at the end of the day. Entrepreneurship has taught me how to rest.

How do you overcome creative blocks?

When I feel like I’m reaching a creative block, I take time away from the online world. Even though I’m active online, it can be draining when you’re constantly consuming. Consuming people’s thoughts, emotions, and feelings - it can be overwhelming! I step away from my phone and connect with people and places that inspire me. The beach, cool vintage stores, thrift shops…Those places fill me when I’m feeling empty creatively.

What are some of your upcoming goals or things we should look out for?

My first book, Poetry de la Sōl, will be released June 2023! It’s an extension of the words and musings that I share on my Instagram and Twitter platforms. It’s been a labor of love, and I’m so excited to share it!
